Nestled in the heart of downtown Lethbridge, Whitbie's Fish And Chips Downtown is a delightful haven for lovers of classic fish and chips and comforting, homestyle fare. This charming family-run restaurant serves up an authentic Scottish-inspired menu that beckons locals and visitors alike with its promise of fresh, crispy, and satisfying dishes.
The true star here is undoubtedly the fish and chips. Picture perfectly golden-brown, crispy cod with a tender, flaky interior that melts in your mouth, paired with generous portions of freshly cut fries. The crunch on the outside combined with the moistness inside reveals a level of care and expertise that ensures every bite is a little celebration of textures and flavors. What really sets the meal apart is the accompanying homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw, which add bright, tangy notes balancing the savory richness beautifully.
Beyond the iconic fish and chips, the menu offers an inviting variety that caters to diverse cravings throughout the day. The baked lasagna and spaghetti dishes are comfort food favorites, layered with house-made meat sauce and topped with bubbling cheese, served alongside warm, garlicky toast that perfectly complements the hearty pasta. For breakfast lovers, options like fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and cubed hashbrowns add a warm start to your day or an indulgent brunch option.
The dining atmosphere at Whitbie's Downtown location is relaxed and welcoming—that chill vibe Anson mentions truly comes alive with friendly, attentive staff who go out of their way to make your experience memorable. The small family operation lends a personal touch, with dishes like house-made spring rolls that reveal the care and tradition behind their kitchen. During warmer months, the patio seating offers a lovely view of the nearby park, making it a great spot to unwind and savor a delicious meal outdoors.
Customers consistently praise both the quality and generous portion sizes, and it’s clear that food freshness and preparation is taken seriously here. If you’re in Lethbridge and craving fish and chips, this is the place!! The vibe is super chill and the people working there are really friendly. I had their fish and chips, and the cod was cooked perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, plus fresh-cut fries. The prices are way more affordable than you’d expect for the quality you get. I’ll be coming back to for sure!!

We decided to check out the new location this past weekend and were not disappointed! From start to finish, everything was excellent. They took a reservation for our party for 7 on a Saturday evening which was helpful. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. We really enjoyed the spring rolls (house made by the mom!) People in our party ordered - fish and chips, lasagna, liver & onion, and donair and there was not an empty plate (well, except for one lasagna only because it was a large portion!) We ended the meal with shared mini doughnuts and churro's which were fresh and delicious. Extremely reasonable prices for the quantity and quality of food that you get, not to mention a wide variety of menu selections available, something for everyone. We can't wait to go back when we are in town and try other dishes.

The restaurant serves a mix of tasty dishes like pasta, fish and chips, breakfast, sandwiches, and fresh coffee. In the summer, you can relax on the patio and enjoy a lovely view of the park. It’s run by a small family from Lethbridge, so you know you’ll always get great food and friendly service.

Portion sizes are generous, fish is always crispy and delicious. The homemade coleslaw and tartar sauce are also very good. The fries tend to be a little soft and greasy but that is the only, very minor "complaint" I have. Overall I've been very pleased with my orders and will continue to order from here and recommend it to others!

Excellent Scottish style fish and chip takeaway. The haggis was delicious, it had an excellent seasoning flavor and is quite for authentic and a good one to try if having it for the fish time. The halibut was incredible, worth going for the upgrade. So tender with that chicken breast meat like tenderness you get with quality halibut. I will be coming back to try more of the menu!

So I was craving some fish and chips ever since I moved from Calgary and even in Calgary I couldn't find really good fish and chips to be honest with you. So I went to this location downtown and I had shrimp and chips and then added a piece of fish. It was very delicious very crisp very fresh the fries were good the gravy was delicious I will definitely be back many many times cuz I love fish and chips highly recommend! I love the fact that they wrap it in the paper similar to the trucks in England.

What's old is new again! Ok, that is an overly dramatic way of describing Whitbie's Fish and Chips, which first opened on the West side of Lethbridge. Originally run by a gentleman from the UK, it was taken over by a local family when he retired, but they kept up the quality and great service. This second location in downtown Lethbridge, called Whitbie's Diner, offers a dine-in friendly setting with excellent service and an expanded menu. Nice warm colours and comfortable booths, patient and attentive table service, and a menu that goes way beyond fish and chips. Watch the sidewalk for their special of the day, which will free up extra funds to try a new appetizer or salad! A very welcome addition to the downtown food scene and I hope they continue to do well.
